Proclaiming Jesus at universityfacebook (white)

The UWA Christian Union is a group of over 200 students on a mission to help students engage with Jesus at university.

We come from dozens of churches and denominations across Western Australia, but we’re united by our love for Jesus and our desire to see everyone grow in their love for him.

Whether you’ve known Jesus for years or are just starting to check him out, we’d love you to join us.

How can I get involved?

Things have been moving pretty quickly with the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent restrictions. The best way to keep up-to-date with what we’re doing is to follow us on Facebook.

Meet Richie, another one of our mid-year graduates. WHAT ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR TIME AT CU AND FOCUS? (Heads up: We didn’t have room to post the details of all four of Richie’s highlights, so you’ll have to ask him more about them.) #1 Having the privilege of studying the Bible and Theology with Tom Conyers, my mentor and big brother in Christ from whom I have also learnt so much about life, love and discipline, weekly for the last 3.5 years. We are not afraid of meeting in the rain and dark! #2 Mission at the end of the year with other CUers #3 Discussions with CUers, MTSers and staff workers in the Ref after public meeting (while eating prawn crackers). #4 Making friends, leading 1-1/1-2 bible discussions, and eating dinner (especially if it involved rice!) with international students at FOCUS WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING TO DO NEXT? I have a flight booked back home and am planning on taking a break for some time before deciding whether to continue my studies or start working next year. During this break I hope to be able to study things that I find interesting and read the pile of books I have sitting in my closet. WHAT CAN WE PRAY FOR YOU? #1 Please pray that if God allows me to live in the years to come, I will be even better equipped and overcome the obstacles that would otherwise prevent me from sharing the Gospel. #2 Pray that I can genuinely love those who I get to share the gospel with, as well as the brothers and sisters who are already in Christ. #3 Finally, please pray so that I do not lose sight of eternity and replace God as the focus of my life with other temporary stuff. Take a moment to pray for Richie and our other grads this week. ... See MoreSee Less

Meet Patrick 👍 One of our mid-year graduates.

WHAT’S BEEN A HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR TIME AT CU? The highlight of my time at CU has been the various friendships I’ve been able to make. Christ has been the foundation of those relationships. It was the first time for me meeting so many people at once who have that in common.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO DO NEXT? I’m planning on getting into postgrad uni over east as soon as I graduate.

WHAT CAN WE PRAY FOR YOU? Pray that as I possibly start uni on a new campus, I may be able to find a community similar to CU and I may still keep a Christ centred mindset to all areas of my life.

We’ll miss you Patrick!

Exam time! But for some CUers these are the last exams they’ll sit. So over the next few weeks, we’ll be featuring some of our mid-year graduates.

First up... Meet Joyce!

Joyce came to Perth about a year ago and has been involved in FOCUS, the group for international students on campus (check it out with your international friends!)

Joyce, what have you loved about your time at FOCUS? FOCUS has been a very good place for me to learn more about the gospel. Through bible study each week, it has guided me to think about my relationship with God as a Christian.

What are you planning to do after graduating? I am moving back overseas and hoping to work.

What can we pray for you? Please pray for me to have confidence in job hunting during this critical time of covid-19.

Congratulations Joyce! We’ll be praying for you.

Mid Year Mornings

COVID-19 has turned study and life upside-down, and changed many of our plans, including those for Mid Year Conference. Unfortunately we’ve decided to cancel MYC 2020 because of the COVID-19 outbreak, but we want to ask “How do we live lives of faith and joy in and after such circumstances? How do we feed our faith so we thrive?”

So we’ve replaced MYC with MYM—Mid Year Mornings. Join uni students from around Perth for four mornings in the mid year break as we feed on a Psalm, nourishing our hearts and souls as we share in the despair and delight, prayers and passions, fear and faith of the psalmists.

“You are my hiding place” (Ps 32:7)
“[God’s words] are sweeter than honey from the honeycomb” (Ps 19:10)
“The LORD is gracious and righteous, our God is full of compassion” (Ps 116:5)

You’ll spend time in small groups with friends, larger groups with students from your uni, and have time to chew things over on your own.

When: 10am to 2pm each day (including morning tea as well as social time over lunch from 1-2pm)

Where: Various locations around Perth (depending on COVID-19 restrictions). If you can’t possibly make it in person then it will be possible to join online, but we really want you there in person if at all possible 🙂

Cost: Will depend on venues and catering, but not more than $60 (including food)

Sign up online at https://www.afeswa.info/mym/

Join a small group

Small group Bible studies are the heart of CU. Every week you’ll get to meet with 8-10 people in your faculty to get to know each other, dig in to the Bible, and pray together. You can sign up now!
